I have been looking at some photography recently that purposefully had a lot of noise. When you are taught and are learning photography, you hear a lot about keeping the ISO as low as possible to eliminate noise. However noise can be artistic, the problem is that I’m not really artistic but I decided to try it anyway. I cranked my ISO up (it becomes more sensitive to light and other “noise” in the picture) and snapped some pictures of my little brother playing the piano. I felt like the noise made the pictures more emotional and added another dimension. I definitely prefer crisp pictures, but the grainy look fits with the moment: beautiful worshipful hymns being performed for anyone who would listen in my parents’ dimly lit dining room.
I don’t know. I can’t explain it well with words. Hopefully the pictures can speak for me.
